Mastering Q&A

Answering questions is one of the most misunderstood skills for business leaders today. Yet, it is also one of the most important. Questions from an Executive, Client, Colleague, as uncomfortable as they may be, are a rare insight into how your audience is reacting to what your trying to communicate.

When a leader is able to respond effectively, questions become one of the most valuable parts of their talk or presentation. The challenge is not that that responding to questions is overly difficult, it’s that it’s not well-practiced.

This workshop that is heavy on practice. It will demystify the Q&A process and equip participants to make the most of the questions they’re being asked in any situation.

Instructional Objectives:

– Creating an awareness about the importance of questions in business communication
– Creating a distinction between an answer and a response
– Outlining the why and the how behind effective listening during Q&A
– Establishing a repeatable framework for responding to questions
– Providing space to practice and learn how to apply this framework

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop, participants will see that questions are an opportunity to get access to what their audience is really thinking about what they’re communicating. They will be able to better listen for resistance, confusion or other barriers that the audience may have. They will have a repeatable framework for responding to questions (written and oral) and they will be able to apply this framework with confidence in their day-to-day interactions.

Leading Through Uncertainty

Uncertainty is the business world is nothing new, yet in recent months, it has become even more relevant. When people are in a state of high uncertainty, they will often react through the following behaviours: Micromanagement, excessive control, indecision, avoidance, and a slough of other behaviours that create friction and hold the business back.

This is often the result of them being poorly led by their leaders. Often, because their own leaders aren’t equipped to lead themselves or their teams in highly uncertain times.

This program is designed to give leaders practical guidance and a repeatable approach that they can apply when leading themselves and their teams through uncertain times.

Instructional Objectives:

– Establishing the context for uncertainty and how it impacts people and results.
– Creating a distinction between order, complex and chaotic systems
– Building awareness of how leaders must lead themselves well before leading others
– Building awareness and skills around empathy during uncertain times
– Establishing a repeatable framework identifying and leading through uncertainty
– Providing space to practice and learn how to apply this framework

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this workshop, participants will understand how uncertainty is always present, but fluctuates in its intensity. They will be equipped to distinguish between ordered, complex and chaotic systems and contexts and will have a framework for identifying these systems in their organization. They will be better-equipped to empathize with their teams and lead them through uncertainty and they will be better able to lead themselves.

Your Facilitator

I’m a Facilitator and Coach for leaders and their teams. What I focus on is embodied leadership. This is about taking the abstract (presence, communication, leadership, decisiveness, relationships) and making them real through actions. I’m light on theory and heavy on making things happen. I work with my clients to be more effective leaders. Specifically, I help them bring their visions, values, strategies and ideas to life. I do this through intensive workshops, facilitated group workshops and raw, unfiltered feedback. My goal is to move individuals and teams into a new operating paradigm that is clearer, deeper and far more effective than they ever imagined.

My Philosophy

In my view, leadership is about two conversations (maybe three if you stretch it). The conversation you’re having with yourself and your team. The conversation you have in the world (how you carry yourself, communicate, achieve, etc.) And the conversation people are having about you and your team when you’re not around. This isn’t complicated. What is complicated is bringing this concept to life outside of our thoughts. This is where I come in. I’m your guide in the process of taking the conceptual and make it real… for you and your team. I’m not a guru or an evangelist. Instead, I’m the person in your corner helping you and your team navigate through it all.
